Drones: Innovating Air Pollution and Climate Research

Drones are transforming air pollution and climate research by providing real-time, high-resolution data from inaccessible areas and providing vertical information within the atmospheric boundary layer. Using remote sensing technology with sensors such as aerosol spectrometers, LiDAR, and gas analyzers, they measure pollutants, greenhouse gases, and atmospheric conditions. Their flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and ability to operate in hazardous environments make them invaluable for monitoring air quality, improving climate models, and informing policy.

Dr. Dr. Ajit Ahlawat

Assistant Professor at Delft University of Technology - Netherlands

Dr. Ajit is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing under the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), The Netherlands. He completed his Ph.D. from CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, India in the field of aerosol instrumentation in 2019. He then worked as a scientist at Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS), Germany for almost 6 years, where he contributed to the advancement of air pollution monitoring through ground-based and drone-based field campaigns. He has coordinated several projects on air pollution monitoring and atmospheric aerosol research. He has published 30 research papers in various prestigious international journals.
